Business Cycle Project
Greetings Everyone,
I know many of you are confused by the Project we have started in class. Don't be! We will break it down into components and you all will get it as long as you complete the work on time.
The first component consists of defining the vocabulary words on your Project Instructions that I sent you and then demonstrate your knowledge of them by using them in sentences that consist of your own writing, not copying and pasting from another website.
This is the first part of the project that you should work on tonight through this Thursday. Remember the first component is due this Thursday, February 9th at the start of class.
The second part of this component is consist of creating the Excel spreadsheet and graph of The Dow Jones Industrial Average. This is what we started working on in class and will continue with it until the Project is due next week. Don't worry about the spread sheet and graph tonight. We will cover that tomorrow in class. For now get started on the vocabulary words and their examples.
Have a great night!

More Compound Interest
OK,
Three more problems and make sure you follow the steps we did in class.
1. A = ?
P = 250
r = 6.5%
n = monthly
y = 3
2. A = ?
P = 600
r = 10%
n = quarterly
y = 5
3. A = ?
P = 1,000
r = 7%
n = semiannually
y = 8
We'll go over these in class tomorrow and don't forget your independent reading books.

More homework
Hi Everyone,
Here are three more compound interest problems that are due tomorrow for homework. Remember to set up each problem as we did in class this morning. Please also remember to bring your independent reading book to class.
Find the amount (A) for the following problems:
1. P = 500
r = 4%
n = monthly
y = 2
2. p = 100
r = 9%
n = quarterly
y = 1
3. p = 1,000
r = 5.5%
n = semiannually
y = 4
Set these up the way we did in class and they try to solve them. If you did not solve last night's problems then do those first and then complete these. Make sure you bring them to class tomorrow and if you have a calculator please bring that as well.
Have a great night!

Tonight's Homework
Greetings Everyone,
As promised here are the questions/problems for tonight's homework. Please remember that you must try to do this. Come to class tomorrow with these problems completed as best you can.
OK, here we go. The compound interest formula is as follows:
Amount=Principle(1+r/n)yn
Amount = How much in your account
Principle = What you started with (originally)
r = annual interest rate
n = compounding frequency
y = number of years
And:
Money can compound at different time periods
Amount=Principle (1+r/n)yn
This changes the value of n:
Annually: n=1
Semiannually (every 6 months): n=2
Quarterly (every 3 months): n=4
Monthly: n=12
Different Compounding
Basic Formula: Amount=Principle(1+r/n)yn
Various Versions:
Yearly: Amount = Principle (1+r)y
Quarterly: Amount=Principle (1+r/4)4y
Monthly: Amount=Principle (1+r/12)12y
Now we have the information that we went over in today's class. See how far you can get with these three problems.
1. Principle = $100
rate = 10%
n = quarterly
y = 2
What is the amount?
2. Principle = $1,000
rate = 5%
n = semiannually
y = 3
What is the amount?
3. Principle = $10,000
rate = 2%
n = monthly
y = 1
You should at least be able to set these up and many of you should be able to complete them. Do your best!! And remember to bring your independent reading book with you to class every day.

Back to Work
Hi Everyone,
I hope each of you enjoyed your time off from school and are ready to get back to work. Tomorrow you will continue making transactions as we will have access to the laptops again. Your homework tonight is as follows:
Captain/Director: E-mail everyone on your team and make sure they understand their responsibilities. Review the team ranking and see what stocks have performed well and which ones have not. Be prepared to make some decisions about which stocks your team will keep and which stocks they might wish to sell.
Basic Economic Research Coordinator: Find out/research what is unemployment? What does the word mean? What is the unemployment rate? What does that term mean? What is the U.S. Unemployment Rate? Is is high or low compared to what is was 6 months ago? Why is this information important for the Stock Market Game? Please have this information in your notebooks or printed out for class tomorrow ready to share with your team.
Technical Economic Research Coordinator: You will come to class tomorrow having researched three new products that have just been released or will be released in the next few months. An example of this could be the next version of the I-Pad or I-Pod, the latest video game, or a new piece of sports equipment. You need to have the name of the product and it must be manufactured by a company whose stock is publicly traded. Also you must have your reasons written down as to why these products will make money for their companies and why these companies might be a very good investment for your team.
During the teacher conferences today Ms. Schneider commented that too many students are not coming to class with their independent reading books, Please make sure that each of you has his or her book with you at all times. From now on I will be making notes about this in Skedula while taking attendance.
